Author Kay Jennings writes the Port Stirling Mystery series featuring police chief Matt Horning. The series, now with four installments, is set on the rugged and remote southern Oregon coast in a small town.

Shallow Waters, book 1 in the series, was originally intended as a stand-alone story, but reader demand led to the second story, Midnight Beach, which was inspired by a real-life crime. Book 3, Code: Tsunami, imagines a big earthquake hitting the west coast, leaving a century-old murder mystery in its wake. The fourth book in the series, Dark Sand, features an international murder in the aftermath of the earthquake, and is a classic whodunit in the best British tradition.

Jennings will continue the Port Stirling Mystery series as long as readers want it. Book 5 is underway – tentatively entitled Phantom Cove – and will publish in late 2022. She also has plans in the works for a non-fiction book entitled We Moved From the City To the Country, and Here’s What Happened. Kay and her husband, Steve, left an urban life in Portland, Oregon, and moved to a rural five-acre property forty minutes outside the city. Their first two years were, to say the least, eventful. She will share in photos and stories their experiences once she catches her breath.

Dark Sand - Book 4
A Port Stirling Mystery

A Missing British Geologist Puts Police Chief Matt Horning In the International Spotlight

One of the world’s leading geologists, Lord Phineas Stuart, has gone missing in this classic whodunit, book 4 in A Port Stirling Mystery series. In the aftermath of one of the deadliest earthquakes and biggest tsunami waves ever recorded, the world’s scientists have flocked to Port Stirling, Oregon to study the effects.

When the investigation into Stuart’s disappearance gets underway, Matt and his colleagues quickly realize they are not hurting for suspects who wish the geologist harm. Has Stuart just taken off somewhere, or is a jealous competitor responsible for the missing scientist?

Will this mystery drive a wedge in Matt and Fern’s new relationship? Is Lord Stuart’s disappearance just the tip of the iceberg? How far will people go to protect what they love when the stakes are high? Matt Horning is about to find out.
